The Route 66 Association of Missouri will hold the January meeting on Saturday, January 12 at the Hammons Tower in Springfield, MO. Lunch will be served at 12:00 pm and the meeting, including election of officers and board members will follow.
Special guest will be David Rittenhouse, son of Jack D. Rittenhouse, author of “A Guide Book to Highway 66″, originally published in 1946 and still widely used today. Mr. Rittenhouse did a very informative oral history for our Association and he will speak about his father and Route 66 experiences.
The Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven is offering special rates for the nights of January 11 and 12, 2013. For more information about these special rates, directions to the meeting and a form for reserving lunch, please download this January 2013 Meeting Notice.
Hello from Cuba, Missouri “Route 66 Mural City,”
Here’s an idea that the board might discuss that would help everyone up and down the road in Missouri. Other states are getting more proactive in promoting Route 66, and I think MO needs to look at we can do on a consistent basis to make our attractions/history known worldwide.

Visitors from all over the world visit Route 66 every year. Something like they are doing in Oklahoma (see above( would help preserve the legacy of Route 66.
Thanks for your consideration of this idea.

I started this mobile directory, but it’s a paid one – http://www.sell66stuff.com/mobile/business.html
I think there were attractions, businesses, historic spots that would appeal to the Route 66 traveler on their mobile site. If we had a free app/site that would let travelers know what was available in our state, it would promote Missouri’s presence, it would give them more reasons to stop in Missouri. If they get more of this in Illinois and Oklahoma, there may be less reason to stop in Missouri for attractions and businesses.
I think some of the info is out there, but it probably needs to be revised, updated, and made more mobile friendly. Maybe it could be a joint project with MO Tourism.
This is what I got from Visit MO: VisitMo has a full mobile site from which someone should be able to find Route 66 attractions in Missouri. As part of that mobile site, users have access to trip ideas, and we have a set of route 66 trip ideas available.
You can view them here: http://www.visitmo.com/trip-ideas-in-missouri/route-66-part-one.aspx and http://www.visitmo.com/trip-ideas-in-missouri/route-66-part-two.aspx
