On Saturday, November 1, 2008, members of the Route 66 Association of Missouri gathered at the Donut Drive In on Route 66 in St. Louis to witness the lighting of the newly restored neon sign. Before this night it had been dark for 25 years. Photo by Robert Schulz.

Thank you! Yes the sign is beautiful. Here is something to think about – I am not making this up, there were witnesses. Several of us hung around the Donut Drive-In for a couple of hours eating donuts and chatting. A couple of guys walked over from their home nearby to get donuts. We chatted with them a bit, and learned that although they had lived in the neighborhood for five years, this was their first visit to the Donut Drive-In. They had seen the lit neon sign from their home and decided to walk over and investigate.
Since the sign restoration was made possible by a cost-share grant from the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, it’s a powerful testament to encourage people to read this post on Route 66 News – http://rwarn17588.wordpress.com/2008/11/02/senator-may-bloc-route-66-corridor-programs-renewal/ – and take action.
